The Meloni government approved the 2027 Draft Budgetary Plan (DPB) on 13 October and is building a budget of about €23.4bn, using extra deficit allowed for energy and defence. Coalition disputes over income-tax cuts, pensions and a levy on banks have repeatedly delayed cabinet approval of the budget bill.
